Santa at the Gazebo - December 15th
Santa visited the children (and pets) of Black Point and Green Point on December 15th from 4-6 PM. It's great that Black Point and Green Point are on Santa's route!
Novato has 3600 acres of open space. We enjoy trails for hiking and mountain biking. It's one of the reasons we love Novato!
The views from the 1,558 foot high Mt. Burdell are spectacular. A visit to Olompoli State Park will not disappoint and provides hiking trails and over 700 acres to explore. There are historic buildings including the adobe house of Camilo Ynitia. According to the State Park's site, "He was known as the last hoipu, headman of the miwok community living at Olompali, and the only Native American Indian, at the northern frontier to confirm his grant land in the beginning of the American period."
Novato's First School
The first school was built in 1859, at the corner of Grant Avenue and what is today Redwood Boulevard.
The Improvement Club was formed in 1954 by local residents to foster civic pride and a unified community spirit, promote orderly growth, conserve and retain our rural-residential atmosphere, encourage participation in community projects, and disseminate information concerning matters affecting our community. The Club and all of its events are is open to all residents and property owners of Green Point and Black Point.
Today the Club sponsors pot-lucks in July and December for Green Point and Black Point so we can meet and enjoy our neighbors. We coordinate fire drills with the Novato Fire Department so that residents understand evacuation procedures in case of an emergency. We sponsor and fund Chipper Days to maintain the beauty of our neighborhood. We have formed and supported a Firewise Board to address the issue of wildfire in Green Point and Black Point. We have funded mailings to every household in our community for the Board. In addition, BPIC monitors actions, events and proposals that might have an impact on our community. We provide information to the community via email and occasionally post signs in the neighborhood. When needed, we host public forums where the entire community can listen to a discussion of the issues, ask questions, and voice their opinion. When necessary, we take positions regarding those actions and convey those decisions to appropriate individuals and / or organizations.
BPIC meetings are bi-monthly to discuss current issues followed by a social gathering with refreshments. All residents of Green Point and Black Point are welcome.
Dues are $25 annually per household for the fiscal year July 1 to June 30. We also accept donations to fund scholarships supporting local students in pursuit of higher education. If you wish to donate to the Scholarship Fund, please include that amount in your dues check.
